Deskala emerges from an eclectic mix of design skills that emanate from the experiences and blending of multiple people. This team shares a belief that the role of design and therefore, the art of it, can provide solutions to resolve problems that are prevalent in the society today. They aim to do this together through research, design, and technology.
User Experience Engineer/ Industrial Designer / User Researcher
Porus Rathore is an Industrial Designer with vast experience in the User Interface Design and User Research domain and has worked with companies such as Proteans, Infosys and CKS. Having studied Product/Industrial Design for his Bachelors in Design from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, his inclination remains in the field of implementing design thoughts in form of products useful to the world we live in. As a design professional, he has worked on products ranging from recyclable furniture, critical healthcare products to banking software user interfaces. If he is not at Deskala, he is busy viewing the world on his Enfield: the experience of which, he believes, shapes his ideas and thoughts.
Kshitiz Anand
Interaction Designer / Communication Artist/ Photographer
Kshitiz received his Masters in Science in Interaction Design from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA and his Bachelors in Design with a specialization in Communication Design from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Armed with the experience of working in organizations in India and in the US, he continues to explore new ground in communication design. He believes in the power of the lens, which is evident in the numerous images that have been published on cover pages of books, by leading publishing house Penguin India. Though still images are his forte, he utilizes moving images to create documentaries. Education is critical to him and hence, he runs an online social entrepreneurship project on promotion of child education in rural Bihar called ‘Pick me, Click me, Educate me’. As a visiting lecturer, he teaches photography and design, and conducts workshops at IIT Guwahati. He also writes for ‘Indian Auteur’, an online film journal.
Karthikeya Acharya
Design Researcher / Interaction designer / Architect
Karthikeya Acharya is a design researcher based in Helsinki and Bangalore. He completed his masters in Interaction Design at IDII+Domus Academy, Milan. Having worked at Nokia Design and at NRC in India, he is currently with the academia at the University of Art and Design, Helsinki. When he is not working on his doctoral research, which is based on conceptualizing and designing the dynamics of sustainable and self governing systems, he is involved in using content from his field research and converting them into art installations. His installations have been seen at British Council, the India Habitat Center, New Delhi, at the Bombayseers Festival in Lille, and at the Pixelache festivals in Kiasma, Helsinki. He is also a trained architect from the Manipal Faculty of Architecture, India.
